Nightmare Logic

14.05 - NIGHTMARE LOGIC

CAMPFIRE! I've been watching too much NCIS...
I'm so proud of Sammy leading all these new hunters. But what's Dean up to?

There he is!

It's so weird having Sam in charge when that's always been Dean's position, at least  between the two of them. It's interesting to see him take a step back and let Sam run the show. Dean wouldn't want to anyway, he barely wants them in his house, but he'll back Sam up no matter what.

Dean's proud of him, too.

"Don't even say it."
"What? Nah, it's good. It's got, like, a very camp counselor vibe to it, just gotta get you a whistle."
Dean and I are always on the same wavelength...lol.

"What is that?"
"It's just, hunter check-ins."
"Check-ins? That's adorable!"
Again, the perspective, it's like I'm there! I love walking through the bunker with them and their brotherly bickering.

"You got any rest lately? Like, at all? I mean, look man, I know thing are crazy right now, 'kay. I mean, hell I just went toe to toe with my own personal horror movie icon, but we all need our beauty sleep."
I'm worried about Dean sleeping enough and of course he's worried about Sam. By the looks of his room, Dean's doing alright, but Sammy...

"Dean, I've got sixteen hunters on cases right now. That's not counting Jack and Cas in Sarasota or Mom and Bobby working that rugaru in Texas."
Looks like Jack got that hunting trip he wanted. It's nice to know where everyone is...and Sam does. He's keeping track of everybody, I'm impressed!

"Okay, you know that these people survived a war, right."
"Yeah, but a war isn't hunting. These people need lore and weapons and tips and back-up and...don't worry about me. I'm good."
He's still gonna worry a bout you, Sammy...

"What is it?"
"One of the hunters missed check-in."
"Who?"
"Maggie."
Dean just knows.

Both of them doing what they can to contact her.

"You got 'em wearing body cams now?"
"Yeah, they're new. I figure watching each other hunt is the best way to learn. They upload directly to the server."
So that's what that was! Awesome. Nice thinking, Sammy. Teaching tool and tracking device, if things go wrong. He really is good at this.

"And if something goes wrong, you've got a place to start."
Same wavelength, I swear... I love you, Dean!

"Dean, if she's hurt or dead."
"We don't know that. We don't know anything yet."
I love comforting!Dean. Keeping his cool while Sam freaks out.

"I saw a ghoul. And yeah, they're nasty little sons of bitches but they're also scavengers, they don't feed on the living."
"Yeah, so why attack her?"
"I don't know, but I bet if we go there and find out, we got a shot at bringing her home."
Dean's really good in a crisis, especially for Sam. Reasoning with him, trying to make him feel better. God, I love him so much!

Beautiful shot of Baby!

What the hell? In broad daylight? Really!?

"Drag marks."
Sammy is so defeatist about this...

"But no blood. Which means Maggie could still be alive."
...and Dean keeps trying to stop him from jumping to conclusions. I'm really loving his positive outlook right now. Especially after last week's confession.

"Ghouls don't take prisoners."
Really Sammy. Let's find the body before you condemn her!

"Okay, say that she surprised him, it attacked, and then took her somewhere to feed for later. I mean, it couldn't have gone far. Maybe it didn't finish the job yet."
Dean is much more patient than I am...

"We're with the Historic Preservation Society...the city sent us, they're gonna make this whole place a historic site."
And they're caught! See, shouldn't be working in daylight.

It's a good thing they used the same cover!

"Just wish you had checked in with the main office before coming all the way out here."
Subtle.

"We don't need permission to look at houses especially when the main office is run by a bunch of idjits."
This is not their Bobby...

This chick looks familiar...what have I seen her in?

_______________________________________________________
Turns out, she was in Supernatural back in 2.08.  Her husband sold his soul to save her life.

BUT! She was in the whole second season of Kyle XY. THAT'S IT!
_______________________________________________________

"I can't. Not today. I'm sorry, but you're going to have to leave."
And just like that, they're kicked out.

Now THIS is the campfire, lol.

"Maybe he was possessed. Maybe a demon took him for a joy ride."
"Yeah, and then what? He tucks him back in like he's returning a library book?"
Their Bobby would've at least said it with love...there's no love here.

Dean doesn't like it. No one talks to Sammy like that, especially someone who looks like family.

"You got something on your mind, Bobby?"
"Yeah, you're brother. He let Maggie come here when she had no idea what she as walking into. She wasn't ready."
"Oh, come on, when is anybody ever ready?"
"You are or you ain't. A real leader would've seen that a mile away."

Sammy feels bad enough as it is. Dean's right, though. Nobody's ever ready. You learn on the job...or you don't. Either way, it's their choice. This is Sam's fault as much as Michael's monsters are Dean's.

"Bobby!"
I love Mary sticking up for him, too.

"We all want the same thing. We have a job to do, so let's do it. Sam, you're with me. Bobby, with Dean"
Dean doesn't look too thrilled about this, but if he can keep Bobby away from Sam...

"Look, don't listen to Bobby."
I love Mary! In an argument between the guy she might kinda be dating and her boys, she's on their side.

"Sam, watching you these last few weeks, you know what I've been saying to myself? 'This is what he was born to do.' If Bobby can't see that then...it's not the only thing he's been missing lately."
She believes in her boys 100%! And she's not wrong. Also, I'm really trying to stay out of the gutter here, but if anyone else said that...

"Bobby's not open like your dad."
WHAT!? John Winchester? Open up about anything? HA!

"Wait, my dad?"
Sammy can't believe it either. lol

"Okay, at least he's not like your dad when I knew him. Bobby's got walls; big ones. I just don't know if I could do that. If I even put myself out there again."
Well, now she can get a sense of how John was. Doesn't seem like she'd like him all that much...

"I shouldn't be talking to you about this."
She would have this heart-to-heart with Sam. He just has this face you wanna open up to, but now he's traumatized. lmao!

"You think I was too hard on your brother back there."
"He's doing his best. He's doing better than his best. You know, this whole Hunter Five-O thing, he's killing himself over it. He doesn't eat, he doesn't sleep. He even grew himself one of those Kenny Rogers beards, no offense.."
Always sticking up for his brother...and clearly worrying about him, too.

"Well, I'm uh...still getting to know this Bobby. Our Bobby wasn't the most open person either. Not at first. His uh, his wife was possessed by a demon and he had to take care of it himself."
"Never had any children?"
"No."

The possession happened three days after she found out he didn't want kids. She was vulnerable. A perfect target. (7.10)

"You were nothing but ungrateful."
"I was a kid, kids aren't supposed to be grateful! They're supposed to eat your food and break your heart, you selfish dick! You died and I was still so afraid I'd turn into you I never even had kids of my own."
"Good. You break everything you touch."
"Uhuh. Well as fate would have it, I adopted two boys and they grew up great. They grew up heroes." (7.10)

I miss Bobby.

Because this....this isn't him. I honestly don't know how Sam and Dean can stand to look at him...He didn't raise them. He doesn't know them. He's just not Bobby. It's like how much it broke my heart thinking that when Cas died, he might come back as the alternate Cas from that world. A world without Dean. I was excited to see Bobby over there, but then...it's not Bobby.

"Anyway, point is people put up walls for a reason. So whatever your Bobby has behind his, doubt it's pretty."
"But you think I should try to find out."
You know what, if you care about him, I think you should."
It's good that Sam was the one to talk to her about this.

Creepy cabin the woods.

Just the kinda place something might be hiding. The kinda thing Dean might need back up for...

And there he goes...#NotMyBobby

"Looks like a hunter's wallet."
Thankfully not one of theirs...

And Dean found the body...

O...kay. This thing just bursts into dust... Sandman? Didn't they kill him already? Hmm....

Dean always looks so annoyed when stuff happens to him, lol. It's adorable!

Strange noises.

Yep, she's gonna die.

Vampire?

...what? It's just gone?

They're just back in the house? Must've heard the screams...

"I'm sorry, what are you doing in my house?"
See! She does't even know how they got there! And only questions them when Sam tells her she's not crazy for having seen a vampire...

"You hunt monsters?"
I think she's my favorite victim right now. She's reacting how normal people would: unable to grasp the concept, not just blindly following what these crazy people are saying...

"You hunt monsters."
"Oh good, you told them."
Way to make an entrance, Dean.

"We think something is killing hunters."
Now that's the scariest thing on this show. British Men of Letters tried it...now monsters.

This poor woman! These two throwing around words like "vampire", "manifestation", "witch", "psychic", "psychokinetic." Just bouncing ideas off each other in front of the civilians. lol

She's taking this real well. Probably shouldn't take that with alcohol...

And Dean sharpening his machete...lmao! That's just great!

"Could you not..."
She called him on it! Whoah! I like this girl...

"You okay?"
"Well, my father's dying and there's a strange man sharpening a machete to presumably kill monsters with in my living room. Thank God for benzos."
Yeah, she definitely shouldn't be taking those with alcohol...

"I never should've come back here. Thanks, dad."
"No love lost between you two? Look I get it..."
"No offense, but I'm not really up for a heart-to-heart."
How can you not listen to him with this face!? She's a much stronger woman than I am...

"My dad wasn't the best person. He was gone all the time, working. For us, he said, but my mom...he knew depression runs in her family. He wasn't there, so I was the one who found her. I was 12."
...or not.

"You wanna know what the most ridiculous part is? I worshipped him as a kid; didn't know any better. He's the only family I have left."
Dean is literally the perfect person to talk to about this. God, I really love this lighting...

"Can I give you a little advice? Let it go. The past is...nothing you can do about it now. So, it's just baggage. Let it go, you'll feel a lot lighter."
"Is that what you do?"
"I try. Every single day."
That's some good advice, Dean. Applies to everything except Michael...
And on a personal note: I figured this out for myself a long time ago. It's just really nice to have Dean saying it back to me. God, I am so in love with him...

Is it a vampire? Or each individual's fear? After Apocalypse World, vampires could still be Sammy's fear...

This is the worst part in horror movies! Pitch black hall lit only by the narrow stream of a flashlight with god knows what on the other side....Something I've kinda missed in Supernatural; the basic scare thrills versus emotional scarring.

There's Maggie!

And the vampire...draining her..?

...or not...WHAT THE HELL IS THIS THING!?

"Daniel?"
"Hey, dad."
Just another way he is #NotMyBobby! Have to wonder, though: if Bobby did have a son, would he still have raised Sam and Dean when John couldn't? Maybe he'd raise them all together and Daniel would've been like another brother... Interesting perspective for a fic...maybe too OOC for my liking, so I've probably passed on a few already.

"Daniel, you can't be..."
Obviously he's dead; an angel kill by the looks of it, from the other world.

Is it wrong that I'm not all that concerned about this Bobby...

Mary on the other hand...!

Way to go, Bobby! Maybe they're not so different after all...their Bobby was strong enough to take control back from a demon and stop it from killing Dean. Pulling out the angel blade that you're impaled on out of your shoulder is kinda that same thing.

Again with the dust...!

Dean has an idea...

"Sasha, could you go...make me a sandwich?"
Really, Dean! At least he's hesitant about it, but come on! That is the worst possible diversion you could've come up with!

At least he gets his point across, lol. Not very subtle, though...

"You're a djinn...Why are you going after hunters?"
"Because you told me to."
Huh? I was really slow on the uptake tonight. Had to have everything spell out for me...

"You think I'm Michael."

"I thought when you showed up with that ridiculous Historic Society story, that you - he - was making sure I kept up my end of the bargain."
"What bargain?"
"Find somewhere quiet. Set up shop. Kill as many hunters as I can."
"And in return he'd give you an upgrade."
Dean looks so defeated. My heart is breaking for him!

"Now one touch: I read minds, see nightmares and because of him - because of you - I can bring those nightmares into the world; make them do whatever I want."
That's why it didn't make any sense. We've never seen this before. Perfect. Basically new monsters. And that dig at Dean...

No lamb's blood, but Dean's not going down without a fight!

"I won't let anything happen to Michael's favorite monkey suit, but I am curious. What are your nightmares?"
DEAN!!

That can't be good...

"YOU...?"
The first sign of something being wrong with Dean... They said it would be subtle. This isn't very subtle...

Dean takes advantage of the moment and gains the upper hand. I love watching him fight, especially when he wins! Doesn't seem too phased, either... Maybe Michael's protecting his vessel?

"You think I'm the only one? The only trap? He made dozens of us, just out there waiting for you and your family."
Of course this thing has to have the last word...although I guess it's more of a warning, even if that's not how he meant it. At least they know part of Michael's plan now.

"You don't know my family."
I do. And I know they'll beat this. I love you so much Dean!

...that's a lot of bullets...but I guess without lamb's blood you can't be too careful.

Look at all the hunters-in-training! It's quite a thing to put together...this might just make it worth it...

"You did this. You got her home."
Always looking out for his little brother...

"Daniel was my son. My wife, god rest her, she didn't die natural. Daniel and I buried her together. After, well, hunting, that...that's what got us through. then the angel wars started. I'd been called up to serve before so they gave me a platoon, you'd call it. Dan was in it. We got separated. I guess you can figure where this is headed... I'm the one who brought him to war, I'm the one who sent him to die. I don't even know what they did to him. The angels took them, we never even found the bodies...  I never figured I'd be any kind of  after to a child, but Daniel was the best thing in my life. I always assumed that war would kill me too, but it didn't. I guess lately I've been looking for other options."

Still #NotMyBobby...but the parallels are familiar. Bobby was the backbone of Team Free Will during their Apocalypse and he'd said the only thing that kept him from eating a bullet was Sam and Dean, the best thing in his life.

"I don' know any other way to live."
"Then we'll find one."
Mary's not giving up on him, and won't allow him to give up on himself. But that means they're out...

"Well, I talked to Maggie, says she can't wait to get back in the saddle."
"Really?"
"She learned from the best, huh?"
It's her choice. See, not your fault at all, Sam. She wants this and with you teaching her, she might actually survive. I love how supportive Dean is!

"Boys, we need to talk."
Mary's leaving again.

...for Donna's cabin. Keeping it in the family. Awesome!

"About what I said before...this job is no picnic. I never really had it in me, but you do."
Look at all the support Sam's getting, from a previously unlikely source even...

Take all the time you need.
"We'll just be a few weeks, as soon as Bobby's back on his feet..."
"I know."
"If you need anything - anything - I'm just half a day's drive."
"Mom, mom, go. Be happy."
I am so proud of the man Dean has become. He's calm and thoughtful and just wants his mom to be happy. I really like supportive Dean. It looks good on him.

Remembering the last time she left, how he wouldn't even look at her... (12.03)

They both have come so far and she's still trying to make up for it.

Their mom and New Bobby...huh. Sammy seems happy for them. Dean is too, but there's something else...maybe wishing for the same with certain Angel of the Lord. After all this bullshit with Michael, could Dean possibly want out? Or maybe I'm just be projecting... Honestly, it's what a lot of the fics I've read have been ending with lately. I just want my boys to be happy...but we all know how this ends.

"Garth, here's the deal..."
"Yeah, that's right. Supercharged monsters"
Warning the hunting community about the new Michael monsters and possible traps. Doing what they can to keep everyone safe.

"Dean..."
"I know, I know. Not my fault."
Do you, though? It seems like every time Michael comes up, it takes a great toll on him...

"You know, I've been trying to - not forget, but - move on from what I- from what we- from what he did. And I gotta be honest, I was starting to feel like myself gain. Almost."
So he was talking about Michael and letting it go...Dean continues to amaze me. I really like this side of him.

"Sam, you get three hours of sleep a night."
Protective older brother Dean! Although, I gotta say it: three isn't enough, but four is?

"Then I'll sleep, too."
Great idea Sammy....lol. Not that I see it happening, although these boys continue to surprise me lately! Maybe if they joined together, took shifts? Sam would still be in charge, but Dean could back him up, so he could sleep! There's an idea...

"Dean, we're going to find Michael and when we do, we will kill him."
"How?"
Sammy's always had enough faith for the both of them. Always dragging Dean, kicking and screaming, into the light with him. (Love the lighting on Sam, by the way. He looks really good...)

"I don't know, we'll track down dark Kaia and her spear, we'll find something."
"I hope you're right."
Grasping at straws, just like I was all summer. Although there is an episode coming up titled "The Spear" so clearly that's where they're going with this... And Dean is always along for the ride.

I really can't tell if he means it, though. How he's really doing, or what he may have seen when the djinn read his mind, if anything. I just wanna know that he's okay...

- EDIT -

POSSIBLE SPOILERS
S.14 FAN THEORY/DISSECTION
RELUCTANT ACCEPTANCE...

I was doing just fine believing that there was something wrong with Dean that would eventually be revealed, like maybe Michael somehow made Dean the ultimate weapon against humanity and he is actually the Big Bad of the season. I was fully prepared to try and piece things together as clues were introduced, content to be blissfully ignorant watching the story unfold. Then I read a fan theory.

The last fan theory I read was predicting Dean would die and become a demon at the end of Season 9.  It was too painful to think about, so I ignored it. It was also the first thing that popped into my head months later before the season finale when it seemed entirely too likely that was exactly where it was going. Guess what happened!?

Supernatural 14x05 The Djinn Sees Michael Inside Dean??

My first question when Dean came back: Why would Michael leave his vessel when he knows Dean would never let him back in? I never continued that thought, but maybe he never left...

Cas is an angel. Dean has been around Cas since he got back. Can't angels sense/see other angels? Or is it just when the angel is in control of the vessel?

Anael saw Michael, but he was driving.

I always thought Gadreel really wanted Cas out of the bunker because he might sense that he wasn't Ezekiel, as he'd claimed to be. Thinking back, Cas was human at the time, so maybe his whole "Cas is too dangerous/angels are looking for him/I can't be found" thing was actually true...?

Metatron found Gadreel outside of a bar when the boys ran into Cas while on a case. Dean wanted some time with his best friend and "Zeke" was getting impatient. Gadreel left the bar in control of Sam's body...DAMMIT!

The Cas/Lucifer situation might be the answer: When Lucifer was walking around in Castiel's body - Jimmy being long gone - other angels knew it was Lucifer. When he turned over the reins in Heaven to convince The Host of their plan to beat The Darkness, the angels knew it was really Cas.

If Michael's still inside Dean, maybe he can't be sensed by other angels with Dean running the show or he's shielding himself somehow?

But Cas was in Deans head, and if a djinn could see Michael when Cas couldn't...

Although, it's been said there's something wrong with Cas, too. Haven in lockdown may be taking a toll on his grace. Michael used his own grace to upgrade these monsters - this djinn - maybe that grace reached out to the grace of Michael himself, hiding inside Dean?

I stumbled across this theory, scrolling through Facebook at 5:00AM this morning and I've been losing sleep over it ever since. This one's gonna stay with me...
