Gods and Monsters

14.02 - GODS AND MONSTERS

Okay "THEN," thanks for making cry for the first time this season...damn.
"Lucifer has Sam, he has Jack. Cas, I don't have a choice!" (13.23)

Since I'm already over this Michael!Dean bullshit, I'm going to ignore him and focus on Sam's plan for getting Dean back! No judgement, no critiques. Just having fun! The storyline was so captivating, I was honestly just along for the ride on this one...

"My angelic presence would be sensed by Michael, thereby nullifying your hopes of a sneak attack."
Cas doesn't get to help bring his boyfriend back because his douche brother would sense him...and he's on babysitting duty. I really hate it when Cas gets left behind, and to chase down the one real lead they have on Dean! He doesn't like it anymore than I do. Though, I'm not sure I really wanna know how Michael would hurt Cas while in Dean's body, anyway...

Isn't he just the cutest?

"I brought you some nourishment." I love you, Cas!

Mark Pellegrino is a phenomenal actor! Right from the "I've never lied to you, Sam." to bringing Sammy back to life last season and trying to bond with his son...he's had me fooled plenty. (I still wish Sam had let him come back with them. At least then, they would've known where he was, maybe even subdued him and Michael never would've crossed over!) I'm over the sympathy for the devil crap. Even though he's not the devil anymore...it's still hard to trust his motives.

"If they were DOA do you have an ETA on TOD? Any sample DFA? ...DNA?"
I like this Bobby!

Archangel grace takes from a month to a century to recover...but with Jack's human side, it cold take longer.

Sage words from Castiel:
"Jack, mourning what you've lost, it's wasteful. Might be smarter to focus on what still you have."
"You don't understand what I'm going through."
"Yes I do, a little. At the time of The Great Fall when the angels were banished from heaven, I lost what I thought was everything. I had no grace, I had no wings. I felt hopeless and useless.
"What did you have left?"
"Well, I had Sam and Dean. But I had something else that's extremely helpful. I had myself. Just the basic me; as Dean would say, without all the bells and whistles. You know, Sam and Dean; they weren't born with their expertise. They've been at it since they were children. Failing, winning, developing over the years. Patience, persistence; those are skills, too. The past, where you came from, that's important, but it is not as important as the future and where you're going."

"The Great Fall?" Is that what we're calling it? Not important - hearing Cas' side of it, what he went through from his perspective, is pretty freakin' awesome! Sure, when he fell, he had Sam and Dean...to a point. Sam was possessed by a rogue angel Dean tricked him into saying yes to, who then threaten to leave Sammy for dead if Cas - who had been on his own for weeks, homeless and starving only to lose his virginity to and be killed by a reaper - stayed with them. Dean kicking Cas out of the bunker is one of the worst things he's ever done to him. So yeah, Cas really just had himself. And he didn't do too bad, either. He understands humanity in a way no other angel could, and to hear him talk about it...I really love Cas. Plus, cute father/son teaching moment!I really love these two together!

DEAN! I'd been scoffing at Michael in his new suit...then THIS! I sat up in bed the nano-second things changed. It was so good to see him again, if only briefly and to show his weakness against Michael.

"Get. Out!" "I own you. So hang on, and enjoy the ride."
He's still fighting in there! Even Sam had to tell Gadreel a few times to "get out", fighting him inside his own head. But Gadreel was fallen and weak. Michael is all-powerful, basically a god, and Dean's just not strong enough....

Although Sammy did take control back from Lucifer long enough to jump in the pit...he's always been stronger than Dean. But Michael is stronger than Lucifer... alright, my head hurts.

Nick's having a mental breakdown about the lack of progress on his family's murder and Cas upsets him by trying to help. Is this muscle memory? His vessel grasping at powers he no longer has? He doesn't even know why he did it, doesn't remember doing it all, but Cas knows. Lucifer messed him up more than they could've imagined. Or maybe he's somehow still in charge...a piece of him at least.

This is so unfair. I mean, I hate it whenever Dean is with a girl - he belongs with Cas - but at least there's a chance of sexytimes! But this...thats' not what Michael is about and I hate that they took a chance of naked Dean away from me! At least we don't see Michael like that. Small favors; although still, Dean's body...this is way too confusing!

Werewolf.

Nick's family's murder is a cold case. There's no evidence, no DNA and the only witness recanted. The case died. And again he starts lashing out when Cas is just trying to help.

"Castiel, you're just a stone cold body snatcher. You're no different than Lucifer."
This comparison has been made before by many angels, including Lucifer; asking Cas to join his side because once he's dead, Castiel would become haven's most wanted. Cas has never really dealt that well with this before...

"You know, in all of my thousand of years, what happen to Jimmy Novak and his family, it's my greatest regret." And that is what separates him from Lucifer. Cas cares. Too much, but that's not necessarily a bad thing...

What is with this ring? I'll have to see if Dean still has it when he comes back....or who it will show up on next.

"I'm new to town and from my perspective, the real monsters of this world, the ones who cheat, covet, lay waste to this planet, are the humans. ...Demons and angels don't seem to be much of a factor here, so I'm in charge. You and your kind are who you are. You kill, but not for sport, for trophies. To live; there's a purity in that. Isn't it time you had your due? ...There are ways to enhance your, let's call them talents."

"Now what? You propose we wage a war on the humans, keeping only as many of them alive as we need for slave labor and a steady food supply? Because I love that world..."

There it is. The grand plan. Even if they do somehow defeat Michael and get Dean back, it's already been set in motion...

Cas isn't a very good babysitter...

Jack was named after his grandfather.

Kelly has a good cover for now, government work, classified. Her parents don't need to know she's dead...if Jack can keep his mouth shut! He's actually doing pretty well, keeping it subtle. No one would suspect he was talking about himself. They just wouldn't understand the truth.

...unfortunately. Poor Jack.

I don't know why I thought Michael was just being arrogant, leaving a pile of bodies with their eyes burned out. He had to know he was being hunted, and what better way to set a trap for the ones hunting him.

"Rule number one: can't have a trap without bait."
No, rule number one is "The Doctor lies." I miss Matt...

He's gonna kill them all...

Cas' angry parent tirade! He's so monotone and serious all the time, it's fun to hear some emotion in his voice.

And back to gravelly monotone. Sexy as hell, though.

"There are worse ways to be human the to be kind." Okay, what's with all the Doctor Who? Cas sounded like Capaldi right there... Also: here it comes. THAT scene:

"Have you heard from Sam? Did they find Michael?
"Yeah, they think so."
"So they're gonna try and kill him."
Jack wants Michael dead, no matter the cost. He fought him for so long in the Apocalypse world and almost killed him here...he's the only one who could. Then Lucifer took his powers and Dean said yes... That doesn't seem to matter to him, really.

"Ah, no. No, the plan is to subdue him using angel cuffs and spell work to get Michael out of Dean."
"And if he doesn't leave?"
"Then they'll try to drive him out."
"And if that doesn't work?"
"Jack..."
For Cas, that cost is too high. Cas has been in love with Dean since he touched his soul in Hell, before he even knew what he was feeling. They've been through too much, Dean is too important to him for Cas to allow anything else to happen to him. He's ready to do whatever it takes to get Dean back, consorting with demons proof of that. He's trying so hard to reason with Jack, to make him understand....

"Cas, Michael has to be stopped."
"I know and he will be after Dean is..."
"No, Dean doesn't matter..." -- Alright, that's going too far! -- "You're all so focused on saving Dean, I get it, I understand, but if he can't be saved, if it comes down to him or Michael, Michael has to be stopped. Caged or killed..."
"And if that mean Dean dies too?"

"Then Dean dies. I know this Michael. I've seen what he's done to an entire world and so have you. If stopping that from happening here means that Dean has to die... Do you think he'd want it any other way?"
Jack just has to go and make sense. Cas knows he's right, and so do I. I can't hate Jack, because Dean will always sacrifice himself for the greater good, especially if his sacrifice ensures his family's safety. I'd cry if it wasn't such a regular thing with him...

I can't tell if this guy was paid off, like Nick suggested,
...or if he's the one who did it?

Uber werewolves. Michael's creation. Silver bullets and knives don't do a damn thing...decapitation! Nothing comes back from a severed head!
(except leviathan, but lets not go there...)

Okay, seriously? How are they supposed to fight off an archangel!?

Dean...

"Sammy...it's me."

"Are you okay?"
"No, I'm not okay."
At least he's admitting it...that's very un-Dean, but he's been traumatized and he's with family.

THE LOOK ON MARY'S FACE IS EVERYTHING!
She knows that even thought he's not okay now, he will be because he's here and alive and Dean.

"But, you got Michael to leave."
"No I, I...I don't...I didn't. He just left."
"Why"
 "I don't know. I don't know."
Why would Michael just leave his true vessel? Dean will never allow him in again. He has to know this. So why leave? And where is he? Or, better question, WHO is he? Ya know what, I don't care. All that matters is that Dean's back. I have missed him so much!

Looks like Lucifer rubbed off on Nick a little too much. Is it possible to become the thing that possessed you even if that thing is dead and gone? Worse thought: Is Lucifer really gone if he Nick somehow becomes him? They're gonna have to put him down. He enjoyed the kill, you can see it in his eyes, and I don't think he's gonna stop.

Cas really is a crap babysitter.

But he totally stole the show!
