14.01 - STRANGER IN A STRANGE LAND
PICSPAM! I haven't done this in ages...
♫ Shot Down in Flames ♫ by AC/DC
Well, they lied about Baby being out of commission until Dean got back...wonder what else they were lying about?
...or not. He's not gonna last very long.
I can't even look at him... When Lucifer was possessing Cas, I cried through every second of his screen time. Misha is phenomenal, mimicking Mark Pellegrino down to the facial features; he's a damn chameleon. But it wasn't Cas' face. The difference here being Lucifer's character had already been established, but Michael is new. And Jensen playing a different character is fascinating!
I'm trying to figure out Michael's plan, his motivation. He's asking everyone "What do you want?" All I wanna know is what he wants.
"If you cared about love, you wouldn't have gone into that broom closet with...what was her name? Darlene?" Thats a Dean line, I can't take this!!
The bunker has really become hunter central. I don't like it. I mean, I know the people from Apocalypse World need place to stay, but this is Sam and Dean's home. Too much has changed...
I really hate that this guy has been in Dean's kitchen....
3 Weeks. Damn... Even with Sam coming back from a busted lead, they've still got their feelers out, trying anything they can think of to get Dean back. And Mary is so optimistic about it.
Sammy's not so sure...he's such a realist, it's no surprise, but he used to have enough faith for the both of them.
"Chief?" These hunters look to Sam as their leader. Huh... We saw him take on that role a few years ago, leading a team of hunters against the British Men of Letters when they were literally fighting for their lives. He did the big speech, got everyone to back his play and not only had Dean's approval, but his insistence that there was no one better to lead them into battle. Watching him take control like that again, it made me proud.
So...Jack's still human. I was hoping he would have gotten his grace back by now. I'm sure he was, too. It's great that Bobby's training him, though. He's one of the best, in any universe.
Okay, Barney Stinson has taught me a thing or two, and brown shoes with blue pants is a major faux pas! I already hate this guy.
And he's wearing sunglasses at night. You know who does that? Douchebags. This guy just keeps getting better... They must really want us to hate him and let me tell you, it's working.
Cas totally agrees with me! He's so done with this guy already, lol.
Cas is just as confused as I am, which is often the case. I still don't know what he ordered...
Demon. Figures.
"Does any demon know where Dean Winchester is?" He doesn't ask where Michael is, he's looking for Dean. THEN: "How is it that you lost Dean? I thought you two were joined at the...well, you know, everything." AND HE DOESN'T DENY IT!! They usually don't, just because they're sick of everyone's shit, but I prefer the other reason...
SLURPING! OMG HE'S SO FUCKING OBNOXIOUS! Just kill him now, nothing is worth this!
Again, I think Cas and I are on the same page here...
Okay...how is it that Cas can't take down a group of stunt demons? He is still an angel, right? How far has he fallen exactly to let this happen? What happened to BAMF Cas!? ...seriously, though, when is the last time he vanquished demons with only a thought? I think reading fic has messed me up a little. It doesn't matter how far he's fallen, I will always see him a badass Angel of the Lord. Even if he doesn't see himself that way...or when something like this happens.
STUPID FUCKING HALLOWEEN PREVIEW! THEY COULDN'T WAIT UNTIL AFTER THE BIG REVEAL TO USE IT FOR MARKETING!? COME ON!! So, I got to spend the commercial break absolutely fuming! Not because of the reveal, but because if Lucifer is STILL ALIVE then Dean said "Yes" for nothing and they could've just killed Michael in his failing vessel. WHAT THE HELL!?
We finally get to know how angels see each other. That's actually really cool. Now I wanna see Cas!
Absolutely love them working together!
...is it weird all I keep thinking is "angel role-play"? I feel dirty.
"I know about you, Jo. Because he knew about you." Don't you talk about him!
"I can sense show many angels there are in this world. There aren't many left. I thought maybe I could help. But if they're all these sad, lost, fallen things, maybe they're not worth saving either." There goes that theory. I thought Michael would remake heaven in his own image, build his own army of loyal angels to destroy the world. But he doesn't seem to care about this world's heaven or it's angels. The ones that are left are too human. I really hope he doesn't kill her...
Sam's really out of his element here. What do you say to a being that's basically a 2 year old in a young man's body who lost his super powers and is forced to live his life as a human? He's not strong, he can't fight. It's great that Sam's trying, but all he can offer are heartfelt platitudes and endless support, but Jack's having a hard time and no one can really understand. Except for Cas, being the only one who actually knows what Jack's going through from personal experience.
Nick...?
2009, Nick said "Yes," tried to start the Apocalypse then killed a bunch of gods, and Gabriel, trying to possess his true vessel. 2010, Sam said "Yes," so Lucifer left Nick's body to rot in Detroit. Five years later, Cas gives Lucifer a ride out of the pit to stop the Darkness, then she rips him from Cas' body, throwing him into the ether. Searching for a new vessel, he jumps families, looking for the right bloodline, wreaks havoc as a rock god before aiming for the highest chain of command: President of the United States. Sam and Dean eject him from his vessel, but Crowley tweaks the spell so Lucifer doesn't end up back in the pit, but caged in Hell where Crowley can have his revenge, remaking and strengthening his old vessel to hold him...maybe making it strong enough to bring Nick back in the process? Imagine being brought back to life, just to have an archangel shoved back inside you, permanently, so Crowley can have his wicked way with your body. That sounded dirtier than I intended. Crowley would be proud.
How he lived through all that with just a scratch - from an archangel blade - is beyond me. But if Nick can live through the decay and death of his unworthy vessel, then there's hope for Dean. Michael's stronger, but still, there's a chance...
At least I'm not the only one...
UGH! I prefer Lucifer to this guy...
It may be a trap, but Sam's getting Cas back. The only reason Jack is allowed to go is because it's Cas. He's nowhere near ready, but he needs to do this for his "father." And Sammy gets it. (I'm sure there's a lot that Sammy gets...)
Does Cas seem fed up with this guy, or am I just projecting?
"Why are you using me as bait?" "I mean, it's kind of what you're for, isn't it?" Oh, I wanted to slap him in the face! Cas is so much more than whatever their enemies think of him...
"You see recently, I had a revelation. Somebody asked me what it was that I wanted." He has seen Dean...err, Michael. And he's putting ideas of grandeur into this guy's head.
Sam's a realist. He and Dean have been down this road before and he knows the risks, knows they might never actually get Dean back. Even if they do find Michael and expel him, he could be dead, burned out or worse.
Mary knows all this, but she has to stay positive or she won't be able to function. Her son is alone and scared and if she accepts his fate, that he really could be gone for good, she wouldn't be able to try to save him. And that's what she's going to do. I really love their mom.
Sam's not even listening to this guy, he's more concerned about Cas.
And wants nothing to do with this "Kip."
"Didn't even put up a fight." Yeah, there's a reason for that. Demons may have set the trap, but they won't be the ones who spring it.
Sam's the barbarian because he won't sit and talk, while this guy drops peanut shells all over the floor while threatening to eat people. Really. It's the little things that make your truly hate someone...
He doesn't just want to be King of Hell, he wants to be Crowley. HAH! He's not even good. He is no Crowley.
"I want the Crowley deal. I give you information, a spot of help every now and again and in return you just turn a blind eye on the crossroads deals, demon on demon violence, ect." Crowley never got that deal, because he didn't need it. He made every situation suit his needs and forced everyone to comply because he was that good. He first helped Sam and Dean defeat a common enemy, then he developed a soft spot for them; Moose and Squirrel, or Not Moose. Crowley was the demon you loved to hate and then just downright loved. This guy is no Crowley and frankly, this is an insult to his memory.
I recently read this article where Mark Sheppard finally provided a real answer as to why he won't be coming back to Supernatural and it made me appreciate Crowley even more. I liked him before I wanted him dead for keeping Sam's soul, then actually started to miss him a few weeks after he died. My relief at his faked death was short-lived when it was revealed he was working with Cas, tricked him into it when Dean was right there. Not that Cas would've actually gone to him and disrupted his "normal life," but we'll never really know... Crowley made for an interesting "human" and I did enjoy his storyline, but I think, even though the Mark of Cain was Crowley's fault in the first place, it was when he was looking after Dean as a demon that I actually started to like him. Could've done without the buddy comedy act and the "Bitch-Jerk" routine hurt me more than I can ever say, but he helped Dean feed The Mark and stuck by him. When Dean was cured, they were more friends than enemies, everything water under the bridge. Of course he grew on me just before he was written off the show, never to return. His death is still a sore spot, and to know Mark is never coming back really hurts. They keep bringing him up, and that needs to stop.
So do the insults.
He's no King.
And there is no deal. Sam never wanted to make deals with demons anyway. Dean started that trend.
Cas shackled to a chair in the midst of battle reminded me of Spike tied to a chair when the vengeful spirits of the Chumash Indians attacked...and Buffy made a bear.
Overconfidence is always their downfall...
"There will be no new King of Hell. Not now; not ever. And if anyone wants the job, they can come through me." Sam Winchester has spoken!
Sam and Cas moment! Love it! Sammy reassuring Cas that it wasn't a stupid idea. That in fact, he would've done it, too. There's nothing he wouldn't do to for Dean,
"Not bad today, Old Man." "You too, Sunshine." HOLD ON! This whole Bobby/Mary thing started at the end f last season. Fine. It's weird, but I'm cool with it. The boys' mom and their...well, Bobby was like a second father to them; treated them better than John ever did. I guess new Bobby works, too...
What I'm more interested in is the parallel. If "Sunshine" is being used here in that context...
Dean: "Morning, Sunshine." (12.03)
Does it mean the same here too...? And both times in the same kitchen!!
It gets better...
Finally! Cas saves the day! Jack really needs him right now, more than ever.
"I'm useless. I can't kill demons, I can't find Dean. And Michael is in our world and I can't stop him. I can't do anything. I don't have anything." Poor thing. Cas felt useless without his grace, too. He wanted to help so badly that he set Lucifer on the world, thinking he could do better. It was a stupid thing to do, but necessary at the time. Although he did it for mostly the wrong reason.
"You've got me. You have all of us. You have your family. And we are going to find Dean and we are going to beat Michael and we are going to do it together. Because that's what we do."
Look at Cas. The student has become the teacher; taking everything Dean taught him and using it on Jack. With Dean gone, his words coming from Cas is like a beacon of their love for each other.
I really thought Sam was going to Dean's room. I so expected this episode to break my heart, but all it did was weird me out, piss me off, annoy the crap out of me, send me briefly fangirling...TWICE, and make me just that little bit hopeful. Overall...it had been a quite a ride. Like watching a brand new show and I didn't know why...
I thought maybe Michael was calling just to goad Sam...
Sister Jo is alive! And Sam had a REAL LEAD! There's that hope again...
...and there it to goes! So, having given up on the remaining angels, Michael is consorting with monsters now. It's a good play. Pretty sure they outnumber the humans, and he's bound to use that to his advantage.
This vampire looked like Rumplestiltskin. It bothers me.
~*~
Within the first few minutes of watching Grey's Anatomy, I was laughing. It was only then that I realized what was missing from Supernatural: the laughter, the heart. Dean was the comic relief - more than that - the other half of the show. Sam's all serious business and Dean makes the jokes. The brothers' relationship is what gives the show it's heart and without one of them, it's just not the same. They need each other. And the show needs them together. It felt like a different show because it was.
I miss Dean.
