Destiel: February Fic Recs

FEBRUARY FIC RECS

Send Me an Angel (34/34)
NC-17 | AU | WIP | slow burn | mutual pining | by Patricia1974
Dean couldn’t remember the last time he truly smiled, the last time he felt needed, wanted, appreciated, included. The last time his wife gave him time, the last time she looked at him with love in her eyes, the last time they even had sex! Anna was so busy nowadays! She didn’t even have time for their 4 year old daughter. Dean is always there for Claire, taking her to preschool, setting up playdates for her, taking her out to the park. But Dean also has a small business to run and there’s so much piled up on his shoulders.

Dean’s secretary, Charlie, has enough of it and convinces him to hire a nanny. To Dean’s surprise, his daughter’s new nanny is actually a dude; a dude with ridiculously blue eyes and intense stare. Dean isn’t sure about this, but since he really doesn’t have the time to look for a nanny himself, he lets Castiel stay. In just a few months Dean and his daughter’s new baby sitter fall into a sort of comfortable routine. Castiel is everything Dean has always missed since Anna started working.

Dean listens to the Impala idle for a good few minutes before he hears Sam even make a move to leave, his sigh radiating disappointment. Head thumping against the steering wheel, he watches Sam peel himself out of the front seat with all the exhaustion of a man that let his anger get the best of him, and slam the door in his wake. The trunk pops open, thunks closed; footsteps echo across the garage, and still, Dean sits, blinking with wet eyes, nose pressed to the center of the wheel.

“Get out of the car,” Castiel says from the backseat, and Dean’s stomach clenches even tighter.

Dean and Cas spend the holidays in Vermont with Sam and Eileen, who retired from hunting years ago and now have two adorable kids who are too curious about the exact nature of the relationship between their Uncle Dean and Uncle Cas for Dean's taste.

But then again...

Dean's kinda curious too, and, well. It's about time he came out to his family, right?

Dean eases Baby down the frontage road, trying not to look in the rearview mirror as his home gets smaller and smaller behind him.

He’s done this a hundred times. He’s driven down this road in the soft morning light, heading out to some little town in some distant corner of the country. This is a job like any other.

“It’s not like we’re never coming back,” Cas says from the passenger seat.

Cas wakes to find himself human without any idea as to why. Dean and Sam take care of him, are nothing but welcoming, but Cas has the distinct impression that there are things they aren't telling him.

As Cas recovers, anger at his inability to remember what has happened to him, coupled with his frustration at both Dean's protectiveness and his own confusing feelings for Dean, is turned outwards, until he is lashing out at both Dean and Sam and pushing them away.

What is it that Dean is keeping from him? Why can't he remember why he fell?

Newly re-angeled, Castiel strengthens and deepens his vastly different relationships with each of the Winchester brothers, and finds that despite his new status, he can't quite shake his humanity. While working toward returning the fallen angels to Heaven, Castiel must face the consequences of stealing the grace of another angel.

Wherein Dean has run out of beer, Cas is acting strange(r than usual), Dean can no longer tell the difference between praying and dreaming, Cas is leaving feathers everywhere, and neither one of them knows how to lock a damn door.
